The Movie

Shelly and Eric were very much in love. But no one gets married on
Halloween, not in Detroit. Shelly is raped and beaten by
city crime boss Top Dollar's thugs, only to die 30 hours later in a
hospital intensive care unit. Eric is beaten then shot and pushed out
a window. A year later death is no longer what it was as Eric Draven,
accompanied by a Crow and gifted with new powers and a world of grief
and pain, is brought back to life to avenge his love's death. After all,
love is forever. And some of us Believe in Angels.

All this happens at the beginning of the movie, the Crow, people believe, has the power to bring people back from the dead. It only chooses those people who have suffered so much pain at the hands of other people that when they die they cannot cross over to Heaven, but remain in a place between our world and the next, trying to find the one they love.

T-Bird, Tin-Tin, Funboy and Skank are the thugs sent by Top Dollar. They were hired to clear the apartment building that Eric and Shelley were living in. Eric and Shelley get their 'special' visit from T-Bird and his gang because Shelley complained at how rundown the building was and tried to get other residents to sign a petition to get something done about it.

Anyway, once Eric has been brought back from the dead, he finds out what happened to him and why he has been brought back, he finds all this out through a series of flashbacks. And he sets off to find these gang members and bring death to them that very night. The strange and mystical new powers that Eric now has, include such powers as the ability to see peoples past experiences just by touching them, and he is invincible, he cannot be hurt unless he either inflicts the damage himself, or he interferes in something that does not serve any purpose in his quest for revenge.

The storyline is excellent and the soundtrack is also very impressive, it is no wonder that it became Miramax's most successful movie of all time. But there was a high price to pay for that success. The films star Brandon Lee (son of Bruce Lee), who played Eric Draven was shot and killed on the set of the movie after a fight scene went tragically wrong. Somehow a prop gun was not checked properly and a brass casing was still left in the chamber when the gun was loaded full of blanks for what would have been one of the final times a gun was fired in filming. Blank bullets are made of cardboard but have 4-5 times more gunpowder than a normaL bullet. So when the gun was fired at Brandon (by Michael Massey who played Fun-Boy) the empty shell casing was rocketed into Brandon, causing a hole the size of a silver dollar to ripped into his abdomen. He was rushed to hospital but died 12 hours later.
